6 Tasks to Check Off Your Moving Checklist

If you have an impending move, you may be a bit anxious about it. However, the more prepared you for this time, the better you can feel. Taking time to create a moving checklist can be the top way to alleviate your concern and better prepare you. Of course, knowing the right items to put on your list can be the first place to start.

1. Reserve a moving company

You’ll want to be sure to have your professional movers lined up to be at your home. As soon as you know this date, it’s a good idea to give these providers a call.

Reserving your spot is just one less thing you’ll need to do. However, waiting too late to do this could result in being stuck with the professional movers to help you get to where you need to go.

2. Start to declutter

Keep in mind the less you have to pack up and move the easier your job will be. It’s in your best interest to have a garage sale or to donate many of the items you don’t use to others.

Make a thorough list of the items you can get rid of if you want to make your relocation less stressful. Just set a plan in motion to ensure you have fewer things to move for a more relaxed day.

3. Clean your home

It’s always in your best interest to leave your property clean. You should start this process a week or two before your actual move.

Taking time to clean the floors, the oven and all the rooms of your house is essential. Don’t forget to have the necessary cleaning products on hand to allow you to accomplish this job with ease.

4. Secure moving boxes

Having the right moving supplies in your home well before the actual move is one thing you’ll want to do. You can purchase these from the moving company you intend to use, or you may wish to secure may of these yourself.

Some ideas include visiting your local grocery store and loading up on many boxes. This will enable you to be ready to pack up and move with ease.

5. Pack an overnight bag

You’ll want to have an overnight bag ready for you to use. This should include a change of clothing and the personal items you’ll need to prepare for the next day.

Having this bag ready to will prevent you from having to go through all of your boxes to find these things. It’s important to take a few moments before packing to put this bag together.

6. Do a final walkthrough

You’ll want to be sure that you didn’t leave anything behind before you go your home. Doing the last walk through your property is ideal.

This will enable you to look for small items that you could easily forget.  Additionally, be sure to turn the heat or AC off and ensure other things aren’t left running.

You can turn any stressful move to a less stressful one by knowing what to do beforehand. Only make a list and check it twice when you’re in this situation. You’ll be glad you did when you can make it to your destination feeling your best. Don’t wait until the last minute to try and get everything done. Plan to do a little each day before your move and this can allow you to have better results!
