Are you in the market for file folders? If so, perhaps it would be best to avoid the cheap and inferior yellow-coloured file folders and take advantage of the latest ones that are durable, flexible, and helpful.

You might believe that all file folders are the same, but they are not. They have really come a long way from back in the day. They are more than just vehicles to store your documents. If you work inside an office that is filled to the rooftop with filing cabinets, then you will be grateful to know that file folders have evolved and will help you.

Here are seven best types of folders to organize the office:

1. Heavy-Duty Folders

A lot of offices make the mistake of purchasing the cheapest and flimsiest file folders available, typically at the dollar store. These may seem inconsequential and unimportant, but since they are holding valuable information, whether it is a patient’s medical record or tax receipts from the previous year, you need to invest in heavy-duty folders.

Sure, they may set you back a bit more than what you budgeted for, but it is a necessary one.

2. Business Folders

Sorry, there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to file folders. Many make the mistake of purchasing a box of file folders are either too big for a lot of your documents or too small. In the end, you are losing your papers or they are getting damaged.

There are generally two types of folders in different sizes:

  • Legal: This folder is typically bigger – 14” x 8.5”
  • Letter: This folder is usually smaller – 11” x 8.5”

3. Expanding Folders

Do you want a cheap trick to saving money and time? Expanding file folders!

Right now, you may not think it is necessary to get your hands on expanding file folders because you might not be accumulating volumes of papers. However, when you start accumulating hundreds or thousands of pages, then you will wish you had expanding file folders.

The problem with most file folders is that they are too thin and do not hold too much. The expanding ones will last a lot longer than you would imagine.

4. Coloured Folders

We have become accustomed to the standard yellow or brown file folder. This makes everything in the office looking the same, which can also make everything less organized.

Have you considered various colours of file folders? You will quickly learn that uniquely coloured folders, typically bright, will help you a great deal in locating a client’s file or legal documents from the recent merger.

5. Presentation Folders

When you are working on a presentation, you often have many documents to sort and organize in a short amount of time. You will soon learn that presentation folders can be very efficient. These types of folders are crucial to locating any information you want when it is not stored on a computer. Indeed, time is of the essence, so you want these types of presentation folders.

These presentation folders will come with two kinds of tabs – top and ends – you might want to know which one to acquire. Well, since most folders are filed horizontally, it would be better to get folders with the tab placement on the top.

6. Tabbed Folders

You have likely noticed that most file folders come with blank tabs so you can write on them. But what happens when you need to routinely change the wording on these tabs? Well, you’re in for a mess.

Fortunately, it does not have to be this way. Instead, you can take advantage of tabs with inserts that are manufactured out of transparent plastic, giving you the opportunity to insert a tab label and revise it when you need to. These types of folders are great because you do not need to lose sleep over fears you have ruined the folder with ink.

7. Classification Folders

Are you prepared to have your mind blown? Folders within folders! Wow…

In all seriousness, one of the best advancements in the world of file folders has been the classification folder, a product that allows you to divide papers for simple organizing and easy sorting. If You have many different documents pertaining to a patient, client, or employee, you can separate the information into different sections.

So, rather than rummaging around through the folder trying to locate that one piece of paper, you can just navigate through a particular section.

Here are nine file folder types that you should consider buying

  • Basic
  • Hanging
  • Straight Tab
  • Right-Cut Tabs
  • Repositionable Tabs
  • Manila
  • Kraft
  • Plastic
  • Pressboard

If you have seen one file folder you have seen them all, correct? Not quite. File folders have changed from just being a foldable material. They have become more advanced with security mechanisms, durable material, and different sizes. What do you need to make your office more organized?
