If you think that all your landscaping preoccupations should stop as soon as the snow starts falling, you are wrong. There are plenty of things you can do to take care of your garden and of your yard during the cold season. Here are 9 useful winter landscaping tips.

1. Don’t think that all insects will die of cold

Many people stop being worried about insects and other pests as soon as it starts getting cold outside. The truth is that many insects will simply bury themselves in the ground, where they will keep damaging your plants all winter long.

2. Keep watering your plants until the ground freezes

Just like you should not stop fighting insects during the cold season, you should keep watering your plants until the ground freezes completely. Many shrubs and trees need to be watered frequently, and it would be wrong to stop caring for them in the fall.

3. Stop using weed killer

One thing you should definitely stop doing during winter is using weed killer. The temperature will get too cold for weed killer to be effective, and it will only be damaging your plants.

4. Think about pruning your plants

Did you know that winter was the best season to prune most of your plants? Since their leaves will fall off, it will be easier for you to get to work. Pruning your plants during the winter will help them get more beautiful than ever when spring comes.

5. Get your lawn ready for the winter

Taking proper care of your lawn can protect it against the damages of winter. Asking some help from a team of landscaping experts will make everything easier. You will be glad you did when you see that your lawn still looks good when winter is over!

6. Pay more attention to hardscaping

The cold season can also be the perfect time to pay more attention to hardscaping. Take some time to focus on interlocking or natural stone work, trellis, benches, garden sculptures, or other accessories. Landscaping experts can help you restore or renew your hardscape.

7. Plant your spring flower bulbs

Many spring flowers will bloom more beautifully if you plant their bulbs in the fall, before the ground starts getting too cold. Plant them deep enough to make sure they won’t freeze during the cold season.

8. Discover onamental trees and bushes that look great in the winter

Many ornamental trees and bushes will look great all year long. Think about evergreens, which come in different colours, and about shrubs that will keep their colourful berries all winter long. They will help your landscape look more appealing once your other shrubs lose all their leaves.

9. Start planning what you will need in the spring

Winter is also the right time to enjoy interesting deals and discounts on garden supplies. Think about what you will need when spring comes, and start shopping for seeds, soil, pots, and garden tools and accessories.
