3 Common Sense Tips with Moving Supplies

Relocating to a new place is tiring, stressful and time-consuming. You have to handle your belongings with care to avoid any damages. Creating a packing list of the items you need to move is a good idea. This will help you reduce moving costs and perhaps even save time.

You need to prepare your packaging supplies as well. Make sure that you have these packaging supplies when relocating. This is a time to keep things simple but organized.

1. Moving Boxes

Moving boxes are eco-friendly as they’re made of recycled materials. You can find moving boxes that are entirely cardboard and capable of holding almost every household item such as delicate electronic goods and kitchen utensils. A lot of companies sell moving combo kits that are designed for certain areas such as dining or living room. These combo kits may include wrapping paper, box markers, bubble wrap and other materials needed for loose fill.

Cardboard boxes that are designed for packing and moving are a Regular Slotted Carton (RSC) and have 4 flaps at the bottom and at the top. Other designs are also available such as Snap Bottom Carton (SBC) and Half Slotted Carton (HSC). A Full Telescope Design (FTD) is sometimes used for packing specific items.

2. Box Sizes

One of the best things about these kits is that it contains custom boxes of various sizes. For instance, a standard kit may include ten medium boxes and five large boxes and other materials necessary for packing. Larger boxes can be used for packing computers and other bulky items. Medium boxes are popular as they are easier to handle.

Don’t throw the boxes away once you’ve finished moving your items to your new house or office. You can use the boxes for storing items that are not needed for daily use. If you don’t want to keep them, you can send the boxes to recycling centers. You can also get used boxes from liquor stores or grocery stores. Notify the store manager a few weeks in advance so that he can set aside the boxes that you need.

Just remember that it is harder to securely pack items in used boxes as they are usually larger than expected. You need to make sure that the boxes are not damaged and are strong enough to hold your items. There are also specialty moving boxes for artwork, guitars, lamps, cribs and mirrors. If you have documents, you can get file boxes to keep them organized. You can buy file boxes at office supply stores.

3. Packing Tape, Scissors & Markers

You should also get some packing paper and packing tape. If you don’t want to spend money on printed labels or you don’t have a box cutter, you can use a pair of scissors and markers to label the boxes. Having a tape dispenser is also a good idea. It will help you save a lot of time and effort.

Your move will be easier and faster if you are organized. If you are planning to move, it is best that you set aside a box that contains all packing supplies that you need. This way, all your supplies are within reach in one specific place and you won’t lose them.
